The Mergard Family

The 1770 Marina was founded in 1985 by the Mergard family.

The Mergards relocated to 1770 in bringing their fishing charter boat “the James cook” built by their father Des, and being the first fishing charter company departing from the 1770 Marina.

The Mergard siblings, under the guidance of their parents, Des and Betty, have upheld the family legacy by sharing their deep-rooted passion for the area.

Our sister company The Larc was established in 1994, and is operated within the 1770 marina by Neil Mergard, one of the five siblings.

The opportunity then arose in 2016 to create 1770 Reef Eco Tours.
